Kidn@ppers Give Families of 20 Abd¥cted NYSC Members 24 Hours To Pay up ₦1bn Ransom

Kidn@ppers of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abd¥cted in Imo State have reportedly given their parents 24 hours to pay ₦50 million ransom for each victim.

The victims were reportedly travelling from Oyo State to their orientation camp when they were abd¥cted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Umunoha, Imo State.

The development was disclosed by the victims’ parents on Saturday during a visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Bodija, Ibadan, alongside the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, and the Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Sefiu Adeyeri.

According to the parents, the abd¥ctors have been contacting them using the mobile phones of some of the kidn@pped corps members and initially demanded ₦50 million for each victim, amounting to ₦1 billion.

“They have been calling us since yesterday (Friday) with a demand for N50m ransom each. They are thre@tening that anything untoward will happen to our children if we fail to heed to their request,” the parents said.

They appealed to Ladoja and the police to intervene and secure their children’s release.

Meanwhile, security operatives have reportedly located the suspected camp where the remaining victims are being held using drones, but the operation has been delayed over intelligence that the camp was planted with improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has also deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Nadada, to Imo State to coordinate the search-and-rescue operation.
