Facebook Images monetization is different from video monetization - and this is where most creators get confused.
In 2026, images don't earn from ads on the image. They earn under the new Facebook Content Monetization program, which merged Performance Bonus + Ads on Reels + In-stream ads into one payout.
That means your photos, text posts, Reels, and long videos all share the same earnings dashboard.
How images actually make money
1. It's a performance model, not an ad model
For video, Facebook sells an ad and gives you 55%. For photos, there is no ad to place, so Facebook pays you from a bonus pool based on reach and engagement.
Facebook itself says you can now earn from texts and photos if they receive a large number of reactions, saves, and shares.
2. What they pay for a photo
Views / Reach of the photo
Engagement rate: comments, shares, and saves are weighted heavier than likes
One creator breakdown from 2026 showed: 66% of views from photos, 51% of total earnings from photos
Overall RPM for Content Monetization is currently $0.10 to $4.00 per 1,000 views, with US and UK audiences at the top. Photos are usually on the lower end of that range unless your audience is Tier 1.
Why your image RPM is different from others
Same as video, but even more sensitive:
a. Originality: This is the #1 reason photo pages get demonetized. Posting stolen memes, Google images, or images with TikTok watermarks violates Content Monetization Policies which prohibit unoriginal content. You must own the photo or add significant original value (your own caption story, editing, context).
b. Audience location: A photo that gets 10k reactions from US, Canada, UK pays way more than 50k reactions from low-ad-demand regions.
c. Prohibited formats: Static images and slideshows are not eligible for in-stream ads, but they are eligible for the Content Monetization bonus. Don't try to turn a photo into a fake video by looping it, that will disqualify you.
Requirements to unlock images earning
You need a Page, not a profile, and generally:
600,000 minutes viewed in last 60 days and 5+ videos in last 30 days for in-stream, but for photos the program is now mostly invite-based once you have engagement
No Community Standards violations in last 90 days
Check in Meta Business Suite > Monetization > Eligibility
How to increase image earnings - practical for you
Post original high-res photos you took. Add a 2-3 sentence story in the caption that makes people comment. Facebook rewards genuine comments and shares more than likes.
Encourage Saves and Shares. End with a question that makes people share to friends or save for later. Example: "Which of these 3 studio lighting setups should I use tomorrow? Save this for your next shoot."
Mix formats: Don't post only photos. Pages that combine photos + Reels + Stories earn more overall because Facebook rewards consistency. Use Reels to bring new followers, photos to keep daily engagement.
Post when your US/UK audience is online. If you are in Nigeria and want higher RPM, check Insights > Audience > Top Cities/Countries, and schedule photos for 7pm-9pm EST.
Avoid: Google images, meme pages reposts, images with watermarks, AI images with no story. That triggers Limited Originality.
